Not only will you be able to see their designs up close and personal in The Curious Place but they are also taking part in the main catwalk show so you get to see how they move too!
So tell us a bit about what you do:
We are alternative bridal designers with a particular interest in dark and Gothic designs.
Our collection is inspired by myth and folklore… each dress is named after a goddess, encouraging you to express yourself fully to be your own untamed Legend on your wedding.
We also offer a fully bespoke service so you can design every element of your wedding gown.
How did you get into creating wedding dresses?
Dressmaking is in our blood. It was our mother’s profession growing up. In fact it’s been a trade for both sides of the family tree for generations. Rachel studied fashion and textiles at university and all her work life has been in bridal; starting out as part of an alterations team in a bridal shop, through to running the sewing room, setting up on her own and then us setting up Legend together (and I ditched my career in Chemistry over 10 years ago now).
We have always been alternative and our style has always permeated our designs, but it was my absolute terror at the thought of wearing a white wedding dress that made us really think about all the brides out there in a similar dilemma. We created the most awesome black wedding dress for my wedding in 2005 and since then we’ve been creating all manner of alternative wedding gowns for brides all over the UK.
What’s the process of working with you?
There are 2 ways in which we can help you feel amazing on your wedding day.
We have just released a our new 2022 collection of 5 brand new dresses and 3 of our best sellers reworked and improved for 2022. These dresses can be bought in store or online and are created over a 6 month period ready for fittings closer to your wedding date. The beauty of this collection is that you can come and try on our dresses, and then if you live quite a distance away we can post them to you to be altered by a seamstress local to you.
We also offer a totally bespoke service, so if you like our style but want to make changes or to completely design your own dress we can work with you to design a dress entirely to your wishes. This service is only available if you are able to come to our studio for fittings.
How soon do people need to book you?
Whether you buy from our collection or choose bespoke we recommend starting the process roughly 12 months before the wedding. Creating a wedding dress is a very time intensive process so we need plenty of time to manage our workload effectively - particularly for key wedding months.
What piece of advice would you give?
Tradition is particularly ingrained when it comes to wedding dresses and it can be hard to shake off the expectations of others. Our advice is to think about the origins of traditions before deciding to incorporate them into your day.
Honey moons? Hell yes to a month enjoying and celebrating your commitment to each other.
‘Tying the knot’? handfasting ceremonies are incredible ways to make your commitment to each other.
Wearing white on your wedding day? Maybe lets think about this Victorian era hangover. A visual representation of a daughters virginity as her purity passed like an object to her new husband. I have so many issues with this. Of course if white is what you’re after then I’m totally behind your decision!
What are you particularly proud of?
Have you seen that CCTV video of the shop assistants that do a little dance behind the counter when someone buys something from their shop?… every time someone chooses a Legend dress we get so excited! This feeling is multiplied tenfold when someone places an order online having never met us or seen our dresses in person… like WOW! And the cherry on the top? seeing our couples wedding pictures and those beaming smiles! It’s EVERYTHING!!!
